more Metrodome baseball...soon

I'm a huge fan of the Minnesota Twins and today they played their last "official regular season game" in the Metrodome. They won in easy fashion and are now set for a one game dual at the dome to determine the division champs. This is the second year in a row that the Twins have had to play an extra game to determine the division champs. While I have not been a huge fan for my whole life, getting into it more in the past few years, I have been bred to love the Twins, and thus the Metrodome. One of my earliest memories of the Metrodome was going with my family on a mini-vacation and throwing a fit because my brother wanted to go to the Twins game and I wanted to shop. Well, my parents bribed me with new shoes to get me to the dome. Which I wore, at the dome, and worked very hard to not get anything spilled on them. I then remember making a special trip with my dad to the cities to see the twins play. Even then, I was not a huge fan but it was something I got to do with my dad, plus he took me shopping! As you can see, getting me to the dome usually involved spending money at the Mall of America on me. But today's a different day. And I'm a different girl now. While I still LOVE shopping, you could get me to the dome without having to buy me new shoes. In fact, I tried to get Alex to call in sick to everything the next two days with me and go to the game on Tuesday (she wouldn't let me).

Today, they had the farwell to the dome thingy after the game. I started crying at one point. Not because I had so many amazing memories there, but it represents all of the memories I have watching the twins with my family. I remember watching the twins on tv with my family and cheering them on with my brother. While I didn't always love going to the metrodome, I will be sad that I won't be going for a baseball game there anymore but I'm also looking foward to the new Target Field.

So, GO TWINS, kick some Detroit ass and become the division champs, and then kick some Yankee ass after that.

GO TWINS.

Well done, Metrodome, well done.

More waiting!

I know I have kept you all in a ridiculous amount of anticipation on what it takes to be a good movie-goer. Here it goes:

We will go through this in order as if you are actually going to a movie in order to avoid confusion. Follow along. Keep up. Don't get lost.

1)When pulling up in front of the movie theatre, it is common practice to let a non-driver out of the vehicle to get in line and purchase the tickets while the driver parks the vehicle. DO NOT have a conversation in the middle of the street. Some people have more important things to be doing than waiting for you to move your ass out of the way while talking about what size popcorn to get.

2) Pay attention when in line. It gets really old to say "NEXT" every minute or so because people are not staying with the flow of the line.

3) KNOW WHAT MOVIE YOU WANT TO SEE! You should know what movie you want to see BEFORE you get the boxoffice.

4) When asking for tickets it should go like this:
Employee: Hi, welcome to *Name of Theatre*. What movie are you seeing this evening?
You: Hi, we need # adults to *movie. (NOTE: if you have children also say: We have a child, and two juniors. If you do not know the age category, be prepared to tell us their age. We are not age guessers. Do not be mad if we assume your 11 year old is a 12 year old and charge them more. Know your kids' ages dammit.)
Employee: Okay! That will be $ please.
You: *Hand over the money you have already in your hand, because you know you have to pay eventually and why waste everyone's time digging it out after we tell you the amount.
Employee: Thank you and enjoy the show!
You: *DO NOT take the tickets until they are handed you! The ticket spitter-outter is an extension of the cashier's body. You wouldn't grab their boob, don't grab the tickets. And then you promptly walk away and deal with your screaming kid outside of the line.

5) At the concession stand: If it is busy and you do not know what you want, let us serve other people first. It is rude to stand there for 3 minutes with 20 people behind you trying to decide between plain M&Ms and peanut M&Ms. Do not be rude when the concession sales person asks if you would like to upgrade a medium to a large for a certain deal. This is their job. They get paid to do this. If they do not, they get in trouble. You would not want a customer of yours to yell at you when you ask if they want glass doors or oak doors (assuming you are a contractor) Same basic principal. Be nice. To everyone. Even if you are having a bad day. Be nice. Again, you know you are going to have to pay sometime so have your money ready.

6) Keep track of your tickets. On weekends and busy nights, and some places every day, there will be someone there to take your ticket. That's why we give you one. Don't lose it. Don't get mad at the ticket taker when you do lose it. Thanks.

7) Don't be on your cell phone in the movie. Duh. You paid 10 dollars to see the movie so watch the dang thing. If you must talk to the person next to you, talk quietly. When the movie is over, pick up your drink cups and popcorn bags and any other garbage you have and dispose of them in the garbages located at the exit doors. ESPECIALLY if you have kids. What kind of lession are you teaching them if you let them leave their garbage on the ground. The movie theatre is not your house. Yes we will clean it, but it will be much cleaner and you will get to sit faster the next time you come to the movies if everyone does this.

8) Enjoy yourself. Don't come to the movie crabby. It ruins everyone's day.

9) Have fun and BE NICE. Thanks a heap.

Thanks for letting me rant. Hopefully you will all be better movie-goers because of this.

Be nice. Always.

more pre-school for PeeWee...He is off to bigger and better things!

So, back in May, my little P graduated from Pre-school! I can't believe it! I remember the day he was born...I was a freshman in high school! My-Oh-My how times flies. (Couple more years and I'll be re-writing this post for little Miss Kartoon! AHHH!)

These little 5 year olds really had no clue what was going on. They had practiced and practiced for this event, and did such a wonderful job at staying in line and doing what they were told. They don't really get the point of "graduation", which is okay...They will "get" it once they become seniors in high school and college. Until then, their families will just make this little accomplishment seem like the coolest thing ever! Here is how every thing went down. They sang songs, did some recognitions of some very special helpers, sang a few more songs (super cute!), got their diplomas, then paraded out to turn in their caps and gowns. (Which were all hand made might I add. God bless the special lady who took the time to make brand new caps and gowns for these cute kiddos!) Then, we got to eat cookies, drink some juice, and see all the cool projects and crafts the kids had done throughout the year. The teacher, who just happens to be P's aunt on his dad's side, even made a special scrapbook for each kid!

This picture is of PeeWee after the ceremony.

Here is P receiving his diploma.

And of course, the family picture!
I asked P what he wanted as a graduation gift. He wants a lunch box, so we have a search to go on...Here is a story of our luck so far.
We were at Wal-Mart the middle of July and I saw there were some lunch boxes out on display. I took P over to take a look to see if there was one he wanted. His 3 options: Blue Transformer, Jonas Brothers, and Pink Disney Princess. Well, of course Pink Disney Princess was out first! Then things got a little difficult. P started looking at the Blue Transformer. I thought he was sold, and boom bam dang, my job would be done...NOT SO LUCKY. He picks it up does a look over, and I once again remind him, "If you don't see one you want, don't worry about it, we have the rest of the summer to look for just the right one." His response, "I know, just let me look for a second." So he continues looking at Transformer, then says to me, "Well I like it, but I don't really like the blue. I say, "Well okay, that's fine. We'll just leave and look somewhere else." "But Aunt Kayt," he says, "wait, I'm not done looking." WHAT? How can he not be done the only one left is a JoBro! I said P, "You don't want that one, you don't even know who those boys are. Don't you want one that has things/people on it that you know who they are?" "AUNT KAYT (said on a 5 year old exasperated sigh) I do too know who they are, they are the Jonas Brothers! But, you're, right I don't want it." P then walked off leaving me with my mouth wide open...My 5 year old nephew knows who the JoBros are?! What????
Needless to say, we still don't have a lunch box. Better get on that soon, school starts in about a week!

living at home for a while

I have officially moved back north for the new school year. I had to come up early to help with football two-a-days. but I have an APARTMENT! Yay! Its really small but its mine (and Alex's) and I'm okay with that. We have really nice furniture and accesories so if you ignore the size you would not think it belonged to poor college students. The worst part is that I have no internet yet so I'm typing this while sitting in the Union. This is the second time I've come here today to get internet and they close at 5:30 so I'll be internetless for ANOTHER night. Not good.

I realized I haven't blogged pretty much all summer. I was working three jobs so I didn't have a whole lot of free time. I was working at a physical therapy clinic as an aide (which I LOVED), a mental health facility as a transcriptionist, and then the movie theater at night. The topic of my next post will be movie-goer etiquette.

I promise I will most more soon but I have a lot more internet surfing to do and the Union is closing soon!

more pets!

Baylie-a.k.a. The Yellow Tornado. As most of you know, the 3 Burgman Girls (mostly me) thought it would be a good idea to get Mr. Kayt's Dad a dog for his birthday. With the help of a dear friend, Allie, I found Baylie in Grand Forks last November. With the help of Brett, Allie's boyfriend, his wonderful roommates, and their big house and huge backyard, I was able to get Baylie and keep her for 5 weeks before I headed home for semester break.

Here are some pictures.

This one is Baylie in one of her few still moments. ( We call her the "Yellow Tornado" for a reason!)

Don't let this fool you, she isn't always so willing to listen.
The next two are of Baylie and her first experience playing in the sprinkler. She had a good time.
Picture 1: Baylie checking things out.
Picture 2: Doing a run through.

( Picture 1 )

( Picture 2)

Baylie and her duck...She's been through 3 already!

So, there you have it...a small update of pictures. They are always fun to have in a post.
Until next time

stopping until I'm done

Hello my friends. I'm back! I have lots of stories for you all and I hope that you will follow along, as it will take a couple of posts to get you all updated. I'm going to start with May (with the exception of a few late nights with my dad back in February) and move on through the months up until now.

So, get comfortable, because here I go.

February- My dad works at Ray Ranch. They have cattle and do a lot of haying. During the late winter month's it is "calving season" this is when all the pregnant mommy cows/heifers start to have their babies. I've always enjoyed farm/ranch life and told my dad when he took on the 12:00am and 2:00am shifts that I would like to go help him. Well, off we went in the dead-set of winter to check on these beasts. It was a few late nights (or maybe early mornings, depending on how you look at it) but totally worth it! I had such a good time. Here are some pictures.

This little booger it 702, he is the only one that I really got to help with. It was our 2:00a.m. check and Dad and I were making our last round before heading home, and I said, "DAD! WE'VE GOT A BABY!" Dad went to the calving barn got the wheel barrow and we loaded him up and took him to the nice warm and cozy shed where he patiently awaited the arrival of his mommy. She, got lost in the hustle and bustle of dad and I trying to get her and baby to the shed, so, we had to go back out into the 138 head of other mommas and find her! That was a task, in the dead of night with a spot-light and 2 acres of ground to search...it took some time. But we finally found her and after some rounding up, some Ya-Ya, and some smooth talking we got the mommy in with her new-born. And, life was good!

Below, are the thre of us (Bayli-the ever so ready dog, Me-don't laugh, I had just crawled out of bed, and Dad-he had just crawled out of bed too)

After calving season, usually by the first week of May or so, is "Branding", that's when ranchers put their brand on all the new little ones and weigh, vaccinate, de-worm, etc all the moms. (I don't have pictures.) I got to help with that also and boy oh boy was that fun. Hard work, long day, good company, and the best part, the "Branding Meal!"
Well, sorry folks, but this is all I have time for today. Sorry!
More updates soon!

sign of me II

Okay, so I lied. I said I wouldn't be back on until after my classes were over. But, as Kels knows, I'm a nighorningner, yes, I just coined a new word.

Nighorningner
Main Entry: nigh-orn-ing-ner
Pronunciation: \ˈnī\ ȯr-niŋ\ -nər\
Function: noun
Date: 21st century
1: a person who stays up late into the night and well into the next days morning.

Anyways, this post is mostly for Kels...
1. I added a song playlist to our page. (Call me and I will give you the information so you can log on and add songs.) For all you other bloggers out there, check out http://www.playlist.com/ where you can create your very own.
2. I added a countdown for your 21st Birthday!!! (Later we will add another countdown titled...Kayt and Kels re-unite!) For all you other bloggers out there, check the gadget tool on your http://www.blogspot.com/ layout page. There are lots of neat things.
3. I have been looking at bumper stickers on http://www.facebook.com/ lately and have come to the terribly sad conclusion that sending you one has no meaning anymore. We don't hang out to have that odd understanding of why the sticker was sent in the first place...This realization made me very sad :( for I have not sent or been sent a bumpersticker from Facebook in a very long time.
SIDE NOTE:However, I did send Allie, http://lifeinasnapshot.blogspot.com/, a bumper sticker not too long ago, but it was perfect. Let me explain. When we became roommates in August of 2008, I found out a fact. The fact that Allie loves Jon and Kate Plus 8. On Facebook the other day, I found a bumpersticker that I just had to send to Allie. The bumpersticker was a family portrait of the Gosselin Family and underneath in big bold letters was the word "FAIL". HAHAHA!!! As you could imagine, Allie didn't find it quite as humorous as I, but that is okay. I have not ever been a big fan of the show. Sure, I'll watch it, but only because it is on when someone else is watching it. Main reason I don't watch it-I am a Kate. No, no, no, yes my name is Kayt, similar, but...If I were to ever become a mom I would be a Kate Gosselin. And that, my folks, scares me! Our personalities are very similar (like our names). I understand she is the way she is because she has to raise 8 kids, but I act like her when I have only P and Kartoon to take care of. Could you imagine how I would act with 3 or more!? So, people I ask you, do you really think I want to see what I would act like in 10 years if I had kids? The answer is NO! Let life be a surprise, and pray to God that by the time I get to the "having kids" stage of life I will be more mellow.
4. Working today, the special was a Runza wrap...it was hamburger, cabbage, etc...The smell reminded me of eggrolls, then I became hungry for eggrolls and Chinese food. Specifically eggrolls and Chinese food from that chinese restaurant on 32nd in G.F. where you Alex and I would go. Then this made me miss you and Alex. (and you too Allie, we made a few trips there together too.)
5.That is all.

Miss you lots!

Oh, Allie:
I miss you TTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

sign of me.

Why hello there, geez it has been a while!

I do believe that the only two people in the cyber world who know I am alive is Kels and my sister, Lex. That is only because I talk to them both on the phone every once in a while.

I just wanted you all to know that I have been very busy these past summer days. I am taking 2 online courses and they take up most of my time. Well, that and working at Burgie's. I get done with my summer semester in a little over 2 weeks! WooHoo! (Well, maybe WooHoo!) After they get over, I'll be back at Burgie's full time. (hmm, another round of summer courses?) NO, No, no, I do believe I will be okay. Anyways, I just wanted to get on "There will be no..." and let you all know to be expecting the longest post (with pictures included) written by none other, than the "silent partner" (as Kels likes to call me)! It will update you all with the things that have been keeping me busy lately. Okay, well I got to jet, I have chitlets to watch. (my nephew (P) and my niece (Kar-toon))

Until July 13th

...good excuse for the lack of blogs...

Sorry about the absence lately. I have been busy working three jobs and Kayt has been working a lot too. And nothing too exciting has been happening. As I understand, her Vegas trip was successful but I'll let her tell you about that.

Don't have any thing to blog about but I promise I'll be putting up a really good story and some posts later this week.

Sorry for wasting your two minutes but check back later - I'll update again SOON! Scout's honor.

...college for a while.

About three months actually! I had my last final yesterday morning and am now officially halfway through my undergraduate career. I have quite a drive to get home, about 6 hours (especially with the road construction) so I typically have lots of time to think, talk on the phone (Don't worry, I usually use my blue tooth), and jam out. And boy, do I jam out! But yesterday my ghost of a blogging partner called me to keep me entertained for a while. We ended up playing some interesting games of "Kill, shag, marry". For those of you not familiar with the game, you name three people that everyone in the game knows, and the other people have to pick one to marry, one to shag, and one to kill. Some are easier than others. Some games you don't want to kill anyone, but the best ones are the ones where you want to kill everyone. Here are some that Kayt and I did yesterday:
-Brody Jenner, Franky Delgado, and Justin Bobby (all from The Hills)
-Tim Gunn (Project Runway), Spencer Pratt (The Hills), and Kanye West
-David Hasslehoff, Hulk Hogan, and Sylvester Stallone
-Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Tony Parker
-Tom Brady, David Beckham, Joe Mauer (I don't think its hard to figure out which one I would choose to marry!)

We are always open to hearing more combinations! And we are interested in what you guys would choose, so let us know in the comments! P.S. You don't need a blogging account to leave a comment!

dorms soon!

HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!

I started cleaning and packing my room yesterday and cannot wait to finally move out of the dorms for good! My suitemate helped me take my loft down (thanks girl!) and I now have an amazing extra-long king sized bed. I don't know what to do with all the extra bed space! Anyway I realized I have a lot of crap in my room! And its not as fun to clean it out when you don't have one of you best friends helping you and bringing up stories about the things you find stashed away.

If you didn't know - Oprah is giving away a free KFC meal. If you want you can print off the coupon at www.oprah.com/kfc but you have to print it off by tomorrow (5/6/09).

I don't know what else to blog about but I'm trying my darndest to keep it updated. Comments give motivation ;)

I'll leave you with this: Be kind to everyone you meet, you never know what kind of battle they are fighting.

Swine Flu!

Sorry about the long delay between posts. I've been super busy lately. Here's whats been going down lately...
-Swine flu. Please don't get it, and if you do, don't give it to me, I have a compromised immune system.
-JOE MAUER IS BACK TONIGHT! YAY! So I'm being awesome and watching baseball on a Friday night. I don't even care. I LOVE JOE! And Kevin Slowey is pitching tonight so all the much better!
- Tomorrow is the Big Event. For those of you who don't know, the Big Event is our university's way of giving back to the community. You sign up in groups and each group gets assigned tasks like cleaning churches, parks, people's homes, etc, etc. I am in an athletic training group - which has been put at the same sight as two other athletic teams (football and baseball) because they thought we would know them and have more fun this way. Yeah, it will be fun, especially since I'm with the football team right now BUT, I see these guys everyday already. Oh well, it should be interesting!
-Thursday is PARTY BUS! This year's theme is Disney characters. I will be Mrs. Incredible.
-Only four days of classes, and then finals! This year has gone so fast! I'm halfway through with my undergraduate already.
-Alex and I are looking for apartments (we are willing to take donations...)
-I have a few summer jobs. Growing up sucks, I don't want to pay for rent!
-Downy Winkle Releaser is the BEST THING EVER! I use it every day
-I bought grape Kool-Aid packets. Not as great as I remembered as a child.
-I have played more "name game", "alphabet game", "I spy", "Shag, kill, marry", and "initial game" in the past few days in the training room then I care to remember. You know its a problem when the athletes can walk in and immediately know what you are playing and join in.

Thats all for now. Time for TWINS BASEBALL! GO JOE and KEVIN!

Seasonal Affect Disorders!

Sorry about the lack of posts! I'll do better, I promise. Scouts honor.

Before I ever came to school in the tundra, I never thought a whole town could have seasonal affect disorder. Believe me people, it's possible. If you don't know what SAD is and care, read below. If not, skip to the next paragraph. According to Mayo Clinic, SAD is:

Like many people, you may develop cabin fever during the winter months. Or you may find yourself eating more or sleeping more when the temperature drops and darkness falls earlier. While those are common and normal reactions to the changing seasons, people with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) experience a much more serious reaction when summer shifts to fall and on to winter.
With seasonal affective disorder, fall's short days and long nights may trigger feelings of depression, lethargy, fatigue and other problems. Don't brush this off as simply a case of the "winter blues" that you have to tough out on your own.
Seasonal affective disorder is a type of depression, and it can severely impair your daily life. That said, treatment — which may include light box therapy — can help you successfully manage seasonal affective disorder. You don't have to dread the dawning of each fall or winter
.

And yes, a WHOLE TOWN can be affected by it!

But no more! It got to 63 degrees today! 63 DEGREES! Fahrenheit! And football has been practicing outside so I'm getting some sun...although only on my face!

Anywho... I haven't blogged since TWINS BASEBALL started! YAY! I am so excited! I am quickly falling in love with some players *cough, Span, Slowey, cough* I LOVE Kevin Slowey! And am loving Denard Span as well! But one major ingredient is missing. JOE MAUER! Come back soon! I MISS JOE! COME BACK SOON JOE!

I stayed up in Grand Forks over Easter. Wha, whaw... Oh well, I was able to have dinner with one of my friends so I wasn't totally alone.

I haven't talked to Kayt in a long time so I don't really have an update for you on her. Hope everything is well you readers (yes all two of you!)

...need to continue the boot search!

Yay! By now I hope you have all read my previous boohooblog about not being able to find rain boots in a flooding town. Well, there is no need to worry about my poor feet anymore! Here's a brief rundown of my adventurous day:
It started raining last night and soon turned into snow. I woke up at 5:30 this morning to be at football practice at 6:15. It's a good thing I woke up early enough because I soon realized that mother nature is a bitch. In order to get to my car I had to walk through snow drifts up to my butt in the middle of a "blizzard" (I say "blizzard" because it was somewhat mild...) As soon as I get to my car I see drifts of snow going above my bumper. Being the South Dakota girl that I am, I tell myself that I can get through that...with my impala... But I did! I had to drive on unplowed roads but got over to football and after everyone had shown up, found out that classes were cancelled for the day. Yes, UND actually cancelled classes. Amazing! But then I had to drive back. So around noonish, my suitemate tells me that she reserved a pair of rainboots at Target but her parents had other ones for her so if I wanted, I could get the boots. Well, of course I did! So we thought it would be a fantastic idea to head out into the blizzard to go to Target. Driving over there was fine but we got stuck trying to park. A very nice man came to push us out. Well, Kylie and this man pushing with me reversing were no match for the snow. He eventually gave up and got his pickup to tow us out a little bit (I don't know why we had to wait so long for him to come to this conclusion but...) Anyway it all worked out okay. Kylie and I are now safe in our rooms, watching the snow from the windows. And I have a sweet pair of rain boots! Check them out!
Pretty sweet, huh?

more excuses!!! EVER!

I have become quite a bad blogger...more like a non-existent blogger. Kels seems to take up my slack...not really, but, she does do her part, unlike me!

So, over the months I have not posted I have stored aside stories that I wanted to get posted.

Let's start!

GOOSE HUNTING
This was long ago, I do remember telling you all though in a previous post that I was going to tell you about my first experience of the great outdoors and the "wild game hunt." I was invited by a best friend Kenzie. Her, her brother, and her dad were going to go goose hunting on a Sunday. So, to my amazement, I agreed to go and had a very good time. I did not and do not have a hunting license though and so I decided to just go along for the ride. I woke up at an hour of the morning (I would still call this hour night time!) that I didn't know existed...I'm pretty sure it redefines the saying "the early bird gets the worm." From my estimation, I'm pretty sure the night owl hadn't even thought about bed yet!
THE DRIVE-We drove for about an hour to a once-upon-a-time corn field. And I'm thinking where do we go from here...I have heard of duck/goose blinds (pits) but, I didn't not know what said thing looked like. I'm thinking fire pit. A nine foot hole six feet wide dug in the ground. That's it. BUT, to my surprise, this was quite a fancy pit!
THE DECOY'S-We park the vehicle and unload the decoy's we had somewhere between 100 and 200 (but hey, who's counting). We had to make sure they were strategically placed. Spaced out just right, facing the correct direction...all over my head, they are fake birds to fake out the real birds which I didn't think were that smart to begin with. But, who am I...
THE PIT-The bird decoy's are all set up and it is time to get started. I'm looking around for my hole in the ground, but have no idea where it is...I turn to Kenzie and said, "Where do we go from here?" I was informed we go "down there" which was some unidentified area we were standing next to. How do you get "down there" well, you have to move the cover of the pit which looks just like the ground you are standing on. How about that, camo and hunting they are said to go hand in hand. The pit was then exposed. it was a big rectangle box built into the ground. Pit Dimensions approximately = 5'deep, 20' long, 3' wide. Equipped with a dog pit right next door for the ever faithful bird dog. Inside the pit was a bench that ran along one wall about 6"wide. there were also 4 propane heaters that were used as heating devices and a grill when it was time to make lunch. Pretty fancy stuff if you ask me!
THE HUNT-One person, usually 1 of the 3 most experience guys would stand with their head barely peaking out of the top of the blind keeping a watchful eye out for a flock of geese to be heading our way. When a flock appeared we were told to be at the ready, people would grab their guns and the adrenaline would start to flow. The watch out guy would then proceed to tell us the whereabouts of the geese. With one hand inside the pit, he would point a finger in the direction of where we were to shoot. When the geese would start to make their decent and were close enough, he would yell, "Take-em." Then, 6 people would pop their heads out of the ground and BANG, BANG, BANG! Though as I said before, I don't have a licence, so I got to watch all of this go down and the sight was priceless!

That's it, the big hunt. Sorry if you thought it would be more exciting. But, for you girls, there was no "hiding spot" so Kenzie and I had to hold our pee ALL DAY!!! Needless to say, I drank very little. Please, feel sorry for us :)

MOVING FURNITURE
Can you believe it, I know I can't. Burgie's has now been open for 3 years. Wow, that blows my mind. Well to make things interesting my mom decided that it was time for a change. Mostly because the tables and chairs had been in the same spot for 3 years and her floors were starting to wear out in the "regular's" spots.
THE COFFEE TABLE-We have a big wooden table that, before we owned Burgie's was our kitchen table. This table is now used every morning by the regular "old town men" who come in every morning for coffee. At most, I have seen up to 20 men sit around this table on any given day of the week discussing who knows what and acting like a bunch of women. The gossip is thick, the stories are filled with exaggerations, and the company is made up of life-long friends. The "coffee table" was located straight in front of the door about 12'. One would walk in and go straight to "HIS" spot at the table. Well, this table got moved to the right of the door, meaning, one would have to walk in turn to the right and walk 6' to come to the newly moved "coffee table." You wouldn't think it would be that hard. Apparently, it was.
HOW THEY TOOK THE BIG MOVE-The old men walked in the next day and walked straight ahead to the table that was supposed to be there, but of course, it was not. Instead a few tables had been placed in this area and the men would run into them...That is right, run into them, they didn't even notice things were different, they did no looking, until they hit their thighs on a chair or table corner that was in the "wrong" spot. Then, they would look around with these dumbfound faces and a look of worry would flash in their eyes. How no one had a heart attack is beyond even me. The look on their faces was enough to almost think that we had killed them. They didn't know what to do. We moved the table less than 20' and we turned their worlds upside down. Completely threw off the balance of their daily routine. Needless to say, they acted like a bunch of little girls who were just scared at a birthday party. We had criers and whiners and angry old men. The protests were ridiculous and I finally got fed up with it! I told them that change was good for them, and if they couldn't stop acting like a bunch of babies that they could start serving themselves coffee, stop coming in, or *I would beat them with their canes. It didn't stop all of the whining but it has started to stop. Which only means, they forget to complain about it.

*As I told a friend of mine, Allie, "The old men are acting like a bunch of babies. I'm really get sick of them." Her fix to my problem, was to beat them with their canes. I did tell them what she had told me to do and they all thought the idea was pretty funny. They were glad to know that I wasn't the only smart mouthed girl around. But, to put up with them, you have to hold your own ground and being a little sassy and throwing in a smart mouthed comment helps keep them grounded.

This is it for now, I'm tired and ready for bed...But, I do have all week so I will continue working on my posts for mediocre entertainment.

...Rain boots...

There is a massive flood going on sixty miles from here and rumor has it, its on its way here. Although our dyke system is 60 feet, there is a chance that the river may crest higher than that. And its supposed to rain tomorrow, in fact, it rained this night for a little bit. So I decided that I was going to get a pair of rain boots to protect my little feetsies. This is what went down:
I went to...
-Target
-Wal-Mart
-TJ Maxx
-Gordman's
-Two (2) Payless Shoe Stores
-JC Penney's
-Sears
-Macey's
-Famous Footwear
-And two random shoe stores in the mall

I found...nothing...at all. Oh wait, Macey's had one (1) ugly pair that was one (1) size too small. I tried them anyway. I couldn't walk.

You would think that in a town that has a history of flooding, one of the said stores would find a cash cow in having plenty of pairs of rain boots. Especially since the weathermen and farmers have been predicting this flood for a while (btw: farmers usually seem to be more reliable at forecasting the weather than the actual weathermen...) Two universities cancelled classes and sent their students to sandbag. All public schools were cancelled and the high schoolers were bussed over to help with sandbagging. And the president of our university told teachers to be lenient and allow us to go help with the sandbagging if we choose without punishment for missing class.

But in all seriousness, this flood is very bad in the places it is starting to hit and could get worse. Please keep the people in the region in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

..BREAKING NEWS!

I have received information from a very reliable source that my usually-silent partner in crime will, in fact, be posting a blog in the coming days.

...classes for everyone else...

I think when every other university and school in a 60 mile radius has canceled class and shut down campus due to the blizzard, this school should too. I don't care that the last time it cancelled class was 1950-something and the temp was -75. Its ridiculous outside. We should not be walking across campus in the middle of a blizzard. In March.

...Oscar for...we know the answer!

So, the Oscars are over. Time to review my predictions:

-Best Animated Film: Wall-E
Did it win? YES
-Cinematography: Dark Knight
Did it win? No, and it was robbed.
-Best Director: Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire)
Did he win? YES
-Actress in a Supporting Role: Penolope Cruz (Vicky Christina Barcelona)
Did she win? YES
-Actor in a Supporting Role: Heath Ledger
Did he win? YES and it was very well deserved!
-Actress in a Leading Role: Kate Winslet
Did she win? YES
-Actor in a Leading Role: Mickey Rourke
Did he win? No and thank God for that...
-Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Did it win? YES

According to my calculations I was 6 for 8 on the night. Not too shabby. Hugh Jackman was hilarious ("I am Wolverine!") As was Ben Stiller who was pretending to be Joaquin Pheonix who is pretending to be a rapper/meth dealer/homeless/grizzly man.

Okay, enough with the Oscars.

And enough for now. Kayt needs to blog. But she lost her "magic spot" so she is wandering around her house with her computer trying to find a bar of internet. Let's all wish her good luck with that.

...Academy Award for...

As Kayt can contest, the awards show season is one of my favorites times. Since the Oscars are on tonight, I'm listing my official predictions:

-Best Animated Film: Wall-E
-Cinematography: Dark Knight
-Best Director: Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire)
-Actress in Supporting Role: Penelope Cruz (Vicky Christina Barcelona (I just watched it last night...interesting...))
-Actor in Supporting Role: Heath Ledger (Dark Knight)
-Actress in a Leading Role: Kate Winslet (The Reader) (However, I just watched Changeling and would personally give the award to Angelina Jolie) This one was hard because Winslet won the Golden Globe but Meryl Streep won the SAG... I'm sticking with Winslet
-Actor in a Leading Role: Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) As much as I hate to say it...
-Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire

There are my predictions! I'm interested in hearing yours!

...place like home...

I thought that title was appropriate on many levels: 1) I'm home 2) Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie and 3) something that makes me feel at home starts today!

So, I got permission to skip practice on Saturday and migrated down south for a few days. Right now, my mom is making me brunch...french toast (yummmmmm). Its good to be spoiled!

And...

...wait for it...

PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORT FOR SPRING TRAINING TODAY! You know how you get attached to things and they "feel like home" to you? That's the Minnesota Twins for me. Watching, listening, or reading about the Twins makes me feel all homey and warm and cuddly on the inside. I'm so excited! I literally have a smile on my face and giggling while I'm typing this (and getting strange looks from my parents as well...) I love baseball. This is relatively new realization for me in say, oh, the past 3 years or so. And while my obsession of Joe Mauer (and now Kevin Slowey also) may have something to do with that, its something much bigger than that. I can't explain it but when the Twins are in season, everything seems right in my world.

more guns stolen (part 2)

So, as you would expect, news of the stolen shotgun traveled through our family pretty fast. We all kept an ear open just in case some stupid "person" opened their mouth not realizing we were around. No such luck...

A few days after we talked to the sheriff, my brother-in-law (Shane) called my dad with some interesting news.

Shane is an avid hunter. He enjoys the outdoors and is very knowledgeable when it comes to outdoor-sy things. So he knows quite a few things about guns, ammo, hunting techniques, etc.

So, back to the interesting news.
Shane said a friend (we will call him Joe) came to him during their lunch break and asked if he would be willing to look at a shotgun that he was interested in buying. Shane said, "Well sure, why don't you bring it here tomorrow and we will take a look at it." Joe said that he was going to get it appraised at Cabela's because he was interested in what the appraiser would say compared to the seller. Then, they went on to discuss what the asking price of the gun was, who had it for sell, the type of gun it was, etc. During this conversation, Shane began to realize that this gun sounded like Dad's. So, as any honest person would do, Shane informed Joe of the situation that was going on in our family. He said, "I hate to break it to you man, but the shotgun you are describing sounds a lot like the one my father-in-law had stolen from his work truck this weekend." Joe, was astonished at the news and said, "Well, I don't really plan on buying a stolen gun if that is the case! I'll do whatever I can to help."

So, after all this information was exchanged between my dad and Shane, my dad immediately called our local sheriff and told him the story. The sheriff told him to call the Sheriff Office in the county that Shane works in and tell them the story, since they don't have jurisdiction over that area he would not be able to give proper advice as to how to handle the situation. He then informed my dad that they would tell him what steps to take from there. My dad called the county sheriff office and once again told the whole story plus the interesting news he had just obtained. They told him, "Have your son-in-law do just as he was going to do, look at the gun, tomorrow. If he can identify the gun as yours have him take it into his custody, put it in his vehicle, and call us right away. We will then take over the situation from there if need be."

The next day, as you can imagine, we were all anticipating the outcome of Shane's "look-over" of the shotgun. Is it or is it not the stolen shotgun!?

During their lunch break, Joe came over with shotgun in tow. Upon taking it in his hands, Shane noticed that the gun case was similar to dad's, he unzipped the case and pulling the gun out inch-by-inch, began examining it. It was the same make and model as dad's (score), it had the same distinguishing marks as dad's (double score), then there it was, the give away sign, the engraving on the butt of the gun. (SCORE!SCORE!SCORE!) Shane looked at Joe and said, "I hate to say it man, but this belongs to my father-in-law." Joe simply said, "I don't want anything more to do with it, take it." Shane, then called the county sheriff's office told them he had the stolen shotgun in his possession. They said they would be right out to do some questioning and to start an investigation.

The last time dad talked to the sheriff's office they told him they would be keeping his gun in holding until the investigation was complete. There have been a chain of robberies going on and they need as much evidence as possible against the perpetrator(s). No names have been released at this time, but we can be assured that they are doing all they can to apprehend those responsible.

In all, dad's stolen gun had been found! In less than a week! (actual time, not based on my blogging time, keep in mind all this happened about 3 weeks ago.) All thanks to some poor man who didn't know he was about to buy a stolen gun.

Sorry it took me SO long to finish this blog. My Internet access was limited. But now, I have what I like to call "My magical spot of bliss!" A place right in the middle of my kitchen where I can pick up one signal bar of Internet. So, unlimited access is now available. I think I'm in heaven, well, not quite, but pretty close. So, as Kels has pointed out, I now have no excuse for not blogging. Which, this time, I will agree with her. But, only until "my magical spot of bliss" disappears :( Which, I hope will NEVER happen.

Again, sorry! And I hope to be blogging more often now!

more guns stolen

So, my title is just as is states! Who knew living in a small town could be so exciting.

The story goes...

A couple of weeks ago, my mother asked me if I had gotten into our family pick-up over the weekend. "No, why?" I asked. She proceeded to tell me that someone had gotten into the cab and rifled through the glove box and arm rest, they had also pushed the seats forward and looked for any "hidden treasure." It was apparent that they didn't want our full sized blow-up air mattress, or a car insurance card that didn't belong to them, or a trailer hitch, or an old beef flavored dog biscuit. DARN!!! They sure picked the wrong vehicle to rummage through, and the wrong driveway full of cars to get anything good out of...WRONG

A couple of days after all this happened, my dad came home and asked if I had taken his shotgun from his work truck. "No, why?" I again asked. "Well, because my shotgun is gone!" he boldly stated to me with a hint of regret in his eyes.
You see, his shotgun belonged to his Grandad, my Great Grandad. It was manufactured
in 1905, making this shotgun over 100 years old. It holds sentimental value more than
anything else. And, me being the outdoor-sy daughter that I am and enjoying the days
shooting trap or skeet, or occasional goose hunting (another post will soon come telling you all
about my first goose hunting trip! GET EXCITED!) it made me sad too :( Beings that I too own
a gun that belonged to my Grandad.
So, as you would guess. My parents went on with the regular actions that one would take when something gets stolen. They informed the town police, gave the make and model of the gun, the description of some distinguishing marks, minus the serial number which my dad had never taken the time to look at and memorize or take the time to write down. So, as again you might guess the sheriff said the possibilities of finding it were looking slim. He informed us that he would turn in this information to the surrounding pawn shops, which again you might guess are few and far between beings that I live in a town in the middle of NO WHERE Nebraska, and would inform us of any news that came up...

...completion of this story will come. I have to get back to work.

~Kayt

P.S. I have lots of good post stories, I just have a hard time finding the actual time to post. So, look forward to my exciting news and adventures.

P.S.S. I really miss hockey, but that didn't stop me from voting for Chay Genoway as the Hobey Baker recipient. You should do it to! NOW!

P.S.S. Kels, I miss you like crazy! You should let me know when the 10% society is having their spring drag show. I really want to come! Because, you know...it's what we do!

...other Super Bowl champions than the...

...Pittsburgh Steelers. That's right. I'm officially claiming the Steelers as my pick to win the Super Bowl. I don't know if any of you know this (I know Kayt does) but I have somewhat of a record for picking the winning team. Its something like 5-0. That's right. I'm undefeated. When I pick the Steelers to win, its like I'm giving the other team an irreversible hex where something terrible will happen to them (Remember Rex Grossman? I picked the Colts that year). So the Steelers have pretty good odds, with me on their side, that they will win. You're welcome Ben Roethlisberger and Steeler Nation.

Go Steelers. Feb 1. Super Bowl Champions.

Oh. And vote for CHAY GENOWAY for Hobey Baker. Vote. Right now. Chay. Genoway. Thats all.

...colder place...

...than G.F. Seriously. I don't think you can appreciate how cold it is here. Its cold. Like cold. Like really, really COLD. I hope the italics and the CAPS lock can convey exactly how cold it is here. Its cold. Really. Damn. Cold. And to put it into perspective....
Today, the average temperature in G.F. was colder than today's average temperature on the top of Mt. Everest. Really. My little slice of heaven was colder than the top of the highest mountain on this planet. That's cold, folks. Really, really cold. Don't worry, we still had class...and I attended all of them...

From a semi-reputable site I found by googling Mt. Everest...

"....The climate of Mount Everest is naturally extreme. In January, the coldest month, the summit temperature averages about -36° C (about -33° F) and can drop as low as -60° C (-76° F)"

Yeah, its that cold...

point to this post.

So, as luck would have it, I thought I would have at least 30 minutes to write today. But, I only have like 5. I have laundry to go switch and then off to the Alley so I can strip some lanes before our bowling league comes in tonight.

I talked to a few of my friends today who have all started their first day of classes.

Kels-Had a lovely meeting this morning at 7am and was informed that her sport got switched. Not the best news, but not the worst. When I talked to her she hadn't had class yet and was on her way at 3. Then, off to softball practice. Until 8 or 9 :( Feel sorry for her, I do!

Alex-Started class today at 8am and was done at 2pm. When I talked to her I was on speaker phone (AWKWARD) and one of my sisters said hello. So, I had a short lovely talk with the two of them. They are both "big shots" at the Wellness Center and were headed over to pick up their keys. OH LA LA!

Allie-Told me she sent me a package! Oh how fun, I love to get packages. I know that the package contains: a dog brush, a bottle of dog shampoo, (both things I left that belong to Baylie, our family dog), and one lone sock. So hopefully that isn't all in the package, not that I'm greedy or anything, it is just that I like not to be told what is in a package that way I can be surprised, even if it is just a sock :)

Stacey-Overslept on her first day of school, so, she decided to not go at all.

Also, it had been brought to my attention: THE FROZEN TUNDRA, IS REALLY FROZEN! E.G. THEY ALL SAID IT WAS SUPER COLD

Those were my updates for the day. It was nice to talk to all of them, by phone and text. I miss them. TONS.

Well, gonna grab my cookie and run!

~Kayt~

...warm days for quite a while...

I woke up this morning for my 7 am meeting to a balmy -36 degree temperature. Luckily my car started and I didn't have to walk across campus at 6:40 in the frigid weather. At this meeting, I found out I have been switched from being an athletic trainer for the baseball team to the softball team. Yuck.

I love watching award shows and I love picking apart the outfits. Here is my dissection of the Golden Globes:
-Drew Barrymore had some major JBF hair...
-Renee Zellweger's hair was AWFUL
-Loved Kate Winslet, the blonde girl from House, Eva Longoria and Amy Adams. That's about it.
I realized I will never look like these people and so I should not judge them...but its so much fun! And I can't believe Mickey Rourke won. Really? Mickey Rourke? Gross... But Leonardo DiCaprio was foxy as always!

I saw Gran Torino over the weekend. I love Clint Eastwood. He was brilliant in the movie. If you don't mind some swearing and racial slurs, I would recommend this movie. I also saw Bride Wars...it was pretty cute. This is a little more for the mainstream crowd than Gran Torino I would say...

I have a habit of leaving things just lying around (right, Kayt?) and while making my six hour drive realized I had left my shampoo, my conditioner, my toothbrush, and my medicine at home...real smart.

That's all I can think of for now... Stay warm!

P.S. If you aren't supporting anyone else, go vote for Chay Genoway for the Hobey Baker Award. www.hobeybaker.com/voting. Go vote. Right now. Go.

more Kayt...Just kidding!

So, I have been gone for a while now. Away from society, in the middle of the country, "no-mans-land" i.e. The place I call home. Such things as computers, telephones and radios are rarely heard of. Just kidding, but they are hard to come by. I have a limited amount of time to write I'm on a 30 minute deadline, that is all the time the library allows use of for the public computers, you see, they are in HIGH DEMAND!

If you are an avid sports fan, or a not so avid sports fan, you might know that all the Bowl games are going on right now. Tonight, is the only one I am watching! The game between Oklahoma and Florida. I have big plans, going over to my Gramps' house to watch the game with Gramps and Dad! Lots of bets have been made with all the old men that come into our restaurant, and OU better pull through, or else I'm out quite a bit of money :(

I sent word to my cousin and his wife who are going to be having twins in April. Told them I would be more than happy to come help out for a while if they want. I haven't gotten an exact answer yet. He did send me a piece of advice that I found very liberating.
----Do not wait for life to find you, go out and find life.----
What an insightful cousin I have!

I'll keep you updated on the progress of my "semester off." i.e. the plans that go/fall through. What I intend to do. Yaddie, yaddie, yaddie. But as I told my mom, "I'm living one day at a time, and I'm loving it!"

~Kayt~

....

I couldn't really think of a title for this entry. All I know is, is this an amazing thing. As many of you know, I am a die-hard Minnesota Twins fans. There are many, many reasons beyond Joe Mauer for this reason. Here is one example:

http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/myfox/pages/Sports/Detail?contentId=8134082&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=6.1.1

I hope you can all see the video.

I amazes me that there are professional athletes out there doing these kinds of things everyday and all ESPN can talk about is Adam "Pacman" Jones' latest encounter with the law or steroid allegations.

While I understand some of these people want it to be semi-anonymous, ESPN could focus a little bit more on the humanity that athlete's have and not about who they are dating (unless its Joe Mauer :D).

I hope in the years to come more athletes like Justin Morneau, and all the others that donate from their own pockets for people they don't know, can show the world that not all athletes shoot themselves in the foot, literally...

Keep it up Justin!

...more Bush's rugs in the White House...

While I understand some of our demographic (a whooping four people) may be Republicans...

I am currently watching MSNBC and all five living presidents (Bush Uno, Bush Dos, Obama, Clinton, and Carter) met in the White House today under the request of Barack Obama. And while they were showing video clips of said meeting, President Clinton said "Nice rug", complimenting the rug in the Oval Office. This launches the anchor into an explanation that every president gets to decorate the office and design a rug for the Oval Office. The anchor (obviously a Bush-hater) starts cracking jokes about how that is all Bush cares about. MSNBC then goes into a montage of clips about President Bush talking about his carpet and how it is the first thing he points out when giving tours. He said that he proudly delegated his first job as the President of the United States to Laura Bush. He told her he wanted to convey optimism. That an optimistic man comes here to work everyday. Maybe he should be less concerned about conveying to others that his rug is optimistic and more concerned about the people's optimism in him... Because that is exactly what the leader of the free world should be concerned and proud about. His rug. Hilarious.

Apparently, Pres. Clinton and Pres. Carter HATE each other. They had to stand next to each other during the press op. You could almost see the huge barrier between them. Hilarious.

I just thought that it was a little funny. Hope you enjoyed it.

Haha. And the anchor just made another, completely unrelated joke about President Bush while going over the weirdest news or something. I need to start watching MSNBC more often.

Anway. No more politics. I promise. I apologize to the Bush lovers that read our blog. Don't hate me.

fatty foods tonight!

Obviously, it has been a while since either Kayt or I have blogged. My excuse, I have been waiting for her to do it. Both of our excuses, nothing exciting has been happening.

Until now.

I get to have my gall bladder ultrasounded tomorrow. Joy. So tonight I can only eat fruit, jello, vegetables cooked in water, and clear broth. After midnight, I can consume NOTHING. Even if I am dying of thirst...NOTHING. Well, I suppose that this fasting will be good for me in the long run...if only I could do it every day...

Anywho. Here are some randos from the past week(s)...

-Ugly sweater party = awesome. Everyone needs to have an ugly Christmas sweater and wear it...often...
-Working at the movie theater isn't as glamorous as it sounds...unless you work with my fellow "Castmembers"...and a very cute boy!
-Speaking of co-workers...Bowling with the kids I work with is probably the best time bowling you will ever have in your life (unless you are bowling with my co-workers at Burgies :D)
-I got luggage for Christmas. Joy.
-I had an AMAZING dream about Joe Mauer...its too bad this blog is G-rated!
-Marley and Me=amazing. See it. Now.

I can't think of anything else right now. I just though I would update the blog. Someone needs to hassle Kayt to blog.

Kayt. Blog. Right now.
